 Both of these pictures show the depth of the water and how the small island has disappeared more and more over the months.

Some parts of the creek, where the stream is slow, are beginning to freeze. 

Field Notebook: 

- Date: November 29, 2018

- Time: 4:30

- Temperature: 30°

- Climate Conditions: complete cloud cover, no wind, not snowing

- Length of Day: 9 hours 19 minutes

- Interesting Observations: My previous field study there was small amounts of snow scattered around the ground. However, today there was approximately 5 inches of snow, in some areas, that totally covered the ground. The pace of the stream seem pretty moderate and in some areas of the creek, it has gotten much deeper since the first time I visited this location. 

- What I heard: The main thing that I heard when I was visiting was the ripple of the flowing water. Since, the water is much deeper, there are things like stumps and logs that stand alone in the middle of the creek that causes the water to ripple and make a sound. 

- Pace of the Creek: moderate

- Question: How does phosphorus travel to Holland's bodies of water if it's snowing and it can't travel through runoff from the rain.

This picture shows the new snow on the ground and how the water level of the creek has grown because at the beginning of this field study there was rather large sand bar in the middle of the creek. The picture on the top is what this sandbar looked during my first field study and the picture on the bottom is what it looks like now.

- Temperature: 26°

- Climate Conditions: light snow falling, mild wind, complete cloud cover

- Length of Day: 9 hours 47 minutes

- Interesting Observations: There is a mixture of snow and leaves that covers the ground. The water level of the creek that runs through my plot of land has got drastically deeper since I began this field study. The current of the creek gradually is eroding away that the side of what was once loose sand, but is now hard ground because of the cold temperatures (picture included above). Almost all of the leaves have totally fallen off the trees. 

- What I heard: very little noise, there were not as many people walking the trails this time, the water moving along the stream

- Pace of the Creek: very slow 

- Question: With this sudden drop in temperatures affect the phosphorus levels in the water sample I took this time? I know phosphorus often gets into Holland's bodies of water from run off the fertilizer when it rains. Now that it's snowing will the phosphorus levels in the water be very low?

I found this green moss growing on two logs near by each other in my plot. 

More leaves falling the creek further slowing own the stream. 

Water level is rising so the island in the middle of the creek is getting smaller.

- Climate Conditions: moderate wind, total cloud cover

- Length of Day: 10 hours 20 minutes

- Interesting Observations: more leaves on the ground and in the creek that slows the pace of the stream, locations where there was higher vegetation in August are seeing more dry dead plants, water level and depth is rising (almost covered the middle of the creek where there used to be an island) 

- What I heard: People walking and cars driving past

- Pace of the Creek: moderate pace (video included above)  

- Question: While checking my plot of land I noticed more leaves in the creek the slowed the pace of the stream. Will this have an effect on the phosphorus levels of the water sample that I took?

Leaves changing color and falling off the trees. 

Water level of the creek definitely increased and it is several inches deeper now.

- Climate Conditions: light wind, no clouds 

- Length of Day: 11 hours 6 minutes

- Interesting Observations: many more fallen leaves on the floor of the woods and the leaves are beginning to change colors 

- What I heard: People passing by and leaves crunching underneath their feet, quiet ripple of the creek, cars driving past

- Pace of the Creek: Very slow because the leaves and sticks in the creeks slowed it down.  

- Questions: The flow and pace of the creek was much slower today and I wonder if that will affect the phosphorus levels of the water sample?

- Interesting Organisms: bright orange bloom of mushrooms on a wet stump

- What I heard: cars driving by and rustling leaves

- Pace of the Creek: There was very light rains so the pace of the creek was very slow. 

- Questions: I wonder if last night rain showers will effect the phosphorus levels of the water sample that I took today?

- Interesting Organisms: brown common mushrooms, cone shaped fungi, tall green weeds

- What I heard: rain and thunder

- Pace of the Creek: Once the rain began to get heavier the creek flowed faster and this increase in movement was obvious because of the amount of ripples the raindrops created. 

- Questions: I wonder if the rain will affect the results I get with my phosphorus experiment?
